This class provides the knowledge most yoga classes omit: the power and wisdom of The Yoga Sutras, one of the foundational texts of yoga and meditation.  Have you been practicing yoga awhile and want to begin to understand what you practice?  Perhaps you took one of the overview classes on the heritage of yoga and are curious about more?

Yoga might be considered the results of centuries of research - as recorded in brief and cryptic language in the guidebook left to us.  By the end of the workshop you will know what the yoga sutras are, some of the controversies surrounding them, and know how to translate it to your own experience of the world.  You’ll have a better grasp of the history and scope of yoga.  We will apply what we learn from the text to our lives: how we think, how we resolve conflict, how we discover our real selves.

You’ll be given a digital version of the text, translation, and notes. Although a number of sources are use, the recommended translation is Ravi Ravindra’s The Wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, available (not required) in class for $20 (cost) or before class by emailing the instructor.  Other translations will be available for use in the workshop, and bring any you might have.

It’s helpful to have some previous knowledge on the topic of yoga philosophy, but not necessary.  Expect to dive deep, work on multiple levels, and gain some insights for self and the human condition.
