How to Train: PUGS at Work (July 2018)
The time, talent, and energy of your staff is your organization's most valuable resource. How well do you invest in it? The top-down, hierarchical model of training no longer works. In this one-day workshop, you'll build skills in teaching of others at work and everywhere else . You’ll learn a progressive model of pedagogical theory (how people learn), how to teach to where your learner is, and how to implement it in your professional and personal life. Designed for managers, parents, or anyone who has to communicate knowledge to others in their lives.

The time, talent, and knowledge of your staff is your organization's most valuable resource. Learning is how organizations create culture and expertise and conveying them is the key job of any manager. But having knowledge doesn't mean you're an effective teacher. You may know a lot, be passionate about your subject, and may even be a dynamic speaker. But none of those is teaching. Teaching is about about being learner-centric: understanding what the learner needs to know and equipping them with the tools and knowledge to do it on their own. According to research, inspired employees are three times more productive than dissatisfied employees. Being a better teacher means inspiring your employees to learn and grow in ways that help both them and your organization.
In this one-day workshop, you'll learn how to implement a more effective, progressive model of education and training. The morning session is understanding how knowledge transfer works (hint: people aren't vessels that you can "pour" knowledge into). We'll talk about best practices and barriers to human learning and development and what it means for your training programs. The afternoon session is instructional design. You'll design learner-centered curriculum, create learning metrics, and practice effective teaching. You'll walk away with tools and aids to take home and back to the office.
